L’Aquila, July 2 (LaPresse) – A high-speed escape turned into tragedy yesterday evening along state road 16, on the border between Marina di Città Sant’Angelo (Pescara) and Silvi (Teramo). A 43-year-old man died after the scooter he was traveling on with another person went off the road during a chase with the Carabinieri. According to initial reconstructions, the 30-year-old rider did not stop at a checkpoint set up by officers in the territory of Montesilvano (Pescara), triggering a chase that ended dramatically near the Expo 2000 roundabout, just beyond the bridge over the Piomba stream. The scooter reportedly collided head-on with a Carabinieri patrol car from the Città Sant’Angelo Company, which was arriving as backup to block the escape. The 43-year-old passenger was thrown to the ground in the impact and died instantly. Emergency medical staff (118), who arrived at the scene, could only confirm the death after several resuscitation attempts. The 30-year-old rider was taken into custody by law enforcement for routine checks. Investigators are completing identification procedures and forensic surveys at the scene. Traffic on the state road was slowed.
