Rome, 3 July (LaPresse) – Eight years and eight months’ imprisonment. This is the sentence sought by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office against Edoardo R., who stands accused of aggravated sexual assault. The request was made before the judges of the First Section of the Court of Rome. The verdict is expected on Monday 6 July and will bring to a close the trial stemming from an incident dating back to the night between 25 and 26 December 2023. According to the prosecution, the young man lured an Italian girl, a few years his junior, whom he had met a few months earlier at a bar in Ponte Milvio, under false pretences. He allegedly suggested they meet on Christmas afternoon so he could give her a panettone; however, once they had met, the situation reportedly took a turn for the worse. According to the prosecution’s account, the defendant allegedly forced the young woman into his car, repeatedly punching and slapping her and dragging her by the hair. The young woman is said to have sustained injuries expected to take twenty days to heal. The man then reportedly drove to a number of secluded car parks, where he is said to have taken cocaine, before proceeding to his family’s villa in the Quartaccio area. According to the prosecution’s case, it was there that the victim was allegedly locked in a room in the basement of the house and forced to endure repeated sexual assaults throughout the night, under threat of being killed if she tried to resist or call for help. The young woman reportedly only managed to return home the following morning. Once back, she told her parents everything; they accompanied her to hospital for a medical examination and, the following day, to the Prati police station and the offices of the Mobile Squad at Rome Police Headquarters, where a formal complaint was lodged.
