Rome, 6 July (LaPresse) – Nine people have been arrested – four of whom are in custody – following an operation carried out by the Carabinieri in the province of Foggia. The order implementing the precautionary measure was executed by the ROS, supported by personnel from the Foggia Provincial Command, the ‘Puglia’ Helicopter Squadron and the Central Protection Service, following an order issued by the investigating magistrate in Bari. Nine people have been arrested who, according to the investigation, are alleged to have participated – in various roles and with different responsibilities – in the commission of, or in the stages leading up to or following, three separate murders that took place in Manfredonia and Mattinata between 2011 and 2016. These incidents are believed to have taken place within the context of the long-standing feud between the ‘Romito-Lombardi-Ricucci’ clan and the ‘li Bergolis’ clan. Two of the murders in question, which took place in 2011 and 2016 respectively, are believed to have been carried out using the so-called ‘lupara bianca’ method. The third – dating back to 2014 – is believed to fall under the category of a mafia-style ambush. Three of those arrested have already been convicted of mafia association as part of the ROS’s ‘Omnia Nostra’ investigation – which covered the period from June 2008 to July 2022 – as they were deemed to belong to the ‘Romito-Lombardi-Ricucci’ clan. For the other three, however, the trial is still ongoing. In support of the investigations, in addition to finalised convictions, there is also evidence from wiretaps, forensic evidence, investigations, consistent statements from various state witnesses, the results of searches and seizures, and footage from CCTV systems.
