Ever since I learnt of his alleged involvement in the attack on me and my family, these have been extremely difficult days.” This is what Sigfrido Ranucci told *Corriere della Sera* regarding the news that Valter Lavitola, a journalist and businessman, is under investigation in connection with the bomb that exploded on 16 October last year outside his villa in Campo Ascolano, near Rome. “I was very surprised by this development in the investigation. I am a friend of Valter’s,” added Ranucci, who went on to say: “I can only believe that he would never have wanted to harm me or my family. I have complete confidence in the work of the judiciary and in that of the Carabinieri units investigating this case. Their investigations have been outstanding in every respect, including from an ethical and moral standpoint.”
