Rome, 11 July (LaPresse) – In his brief address before the blessing and the start of a day spent “in brotherhood”, Pope Leo XIV greeted the approximately two hundred vulnerable people supported by the Diocese of Rome, including 35 children, visiting today at Borgo Laudato si’ in the papal gardens at Castel Gandolfo, and spoke of another, deeper hunger: “A hunger for authentic charity, a hunger for a Church that truly knows how to open its doors, to welcome and receive everyone; where there is love for all and where no one is an enemy, where we all know how to live out reconciliation, forgiveness and peace,” according to Vatican media reports. Following greetings from Cardinal Fabio Baggio, Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and Director-General of the Laudato si’ Centre for Higher Education; Cardinal Baldo Reina, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome; and Monsignor Luis Marín de San Martín, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity, the Pope took the floor, focusing specifically on the title of “bridge-builder”. An image that today extends not only to him, but also to all those who, though marked by need, sit at his table: “And today we would also like to build a bridge with all of you, with your families and with the society in which we wish to live. A society that practises justice, eliminating the causes of poverty, injustice and everything that still fuels dishonesty in the world. In essence, this is ‘the Church we wish to be’.”
