Naples, 13 July (LaPresse) – The Carabinieri of the Palermo Provincial Command have carried out 15 arrests of suspects as part of investigations coordinated by the Palermo District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) into the escalation in crime recorded in the city since last November, particularly in the area falling within the Tommaso Natale-San Lorenzo mafia territory. Specifically, nine of the arrests concerned individuals under investigation for extortion, attempted extortion, and the illegal carrying and possession of common weapons and military-grade weapons, all aggravated by mafia involvement. The remaining arrest warrants were issued against six individuals believed to belong to a criminal organisation involved in the trafficking of drugs such as cocaine, hashish and marijuana, operating in the San Lorenzo and Zen 2 neighbourhoods, and in possession of firearms. A further seven individuals, already in custody on other charges, are involved in the investigation. Today’s operation is a continuation of the investigation which, in early June this year, led the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office to issue eight arrest warrants for further offences falling within the same investigative framework.
