Milan, 18 July (LaPresse) – Four hikers were rescued by the Regional Helicopter Rescue Service of Azienda Zero Piemonte and the Piedmontese Alpine and Caving Rescue Service after becoming stranded in the Monte Rosa area, in the municipality of Alagna Valsesia, in the Vercelli area. The alarm was raised at around 3.15 pm by two climbing parties who had taken the wrong descent route from Punta Giordani, after ascending via the Cresta del Soldato. They attempted to make their way down towards the valley but found themselves in an exposed area where they became stranded and made the emergency call. A helicopter rescue team was dispatched to the scene but required support from technicians from the valley’s Alpine Rescue service and the Alpine Rescue unit of the Guardia di Finanza due to strong winds at high altitude, which made operations difficult. At around 5 pm, the four mountaineers were winched to safety and brought back down to the valley, where one woman was examined by the team’s doctor due to the after-effects of a panic attack she had suffered during the descent.
