Rome, 21 July (LaPresse) – The video of Abderrahim Fakir, the 43-year-old who died in Pilastro during a police operation, whilst shouting ‘enough’? “Violent images are always a source of great distress. However, we must also take into account the psychological circumstances of those who find themselves having to act in moments of extreme difficulty. In any case, we must await the results of the post-mortem.” So said the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. When asked about parallels with the American ICE model, he replied categorically: “No. The US model is very different, both in terms of the rules governing self-defence and the use of firearms by the police. After 40 years’ experience as a public prosecutor, I know that our law enforcement agencies have always exercised great caution in the use of firearms.”
