Milan, 27 July (LaPresse) – A 24-year-old worker, Giancarlo Palomba, a member of the Filt-Cgil trade union, died last night at the end of his shift at the Vairano-Caianello station construction site in Vairano Scalo, in the province of Caserta. The young man, an employee of RFI, was carrying out maintenance work on the railway line. At the end of his shift, the 24-year-old reportedly felt unwell and collapsed to the ground. The relevant authorities are currently conducting investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident at the construction site. “At this time of immense grief, whilst fully respecting the work of the relevant bodies,” write the general secretaries of Filt Cgil Campania and Caserta, Angelo Lustro and Tommaso Pascarella, “we await the findings and conclusions of the relevant authorities, which will clarify the causes of death. This is a terrible tragedy that leaves us shocked and speechless, and which affects the entire railway community. To his family, his loved ones, his colleagues at the Vairano IS and all RFI workers,” conclude Lustro and Pascarella, “we extend the deepest condolences and the most sincere sympathy from Filt Cgil Campania, Filt Cgil Caserta and all railway workers.”
