Bologna, Aug. 3 (LaPresse) – A case of dengue was confirmed today in Bologna, in the Casteldebole area of the Borgo Panigale-Reno district, involving a citizen who recently returned from abroad (Southeast Asia). The immediate report by the citizen allowed for a rapid diagnosis and the activation of measures aimed at minimizing the risk of possible infections. During the nights between Aug. 3 and 6, “preventive measures will be activated, involving disinfection treatments – the Municipality said in a statement – both in public areas and in private courtyards, in accordance with the specific regional protocol, in the area where this person stayed, in order to prevent the emergence of any secondary cases.” For this reason, preventive measures in public areas using adulticides have been activated. The treatment area includes Via Enrico De Nicola and Viale Gaetano Salvemini, and the Municipality asks all residents in the area, condominium administrators, commercial operators, managers of production activities and, in general, anyone with effective access to open areas or homes in these areas, “to allow disinfestation workers access to private or condominium courtyards in order to carry out larvicidal and adulticidal treatments and remove existing larval breeding sites (the assigned workers, except in rare cases, do not need to enter apartments); to empty any stagnant water that may be present on their balconies, terraces or windowsills, and to keep windows closed during the night hours, as adulticide disinfestation operations will be carried out in public road areas, starting tonight until the night of Aug. 6.”
