Turin, 5 August (LaPresse) – This morning in Turin, the State Police arrested a 45-year-old Romanian national on suspicion of aggravated domestic abuse, as well as the murder of his 36-year-old former partner and the concealment of her body, offences committed in Turin, on the night of 9–10 July, in a flat where the woman had moved with her minor son following the end of their relationship. The woman’s body was found on the evening of 20 July in the flat, wrapped in a sheet and placed inside the storage compartment of the double bed, following a report from a friend of the woman’s who, having heard nothing from her for around ten days, had decided to go to her home to look for her. Using a set of keys lent to him for the occasion by the property owner, he had entered the flat and, upon smelling a pungent odour, had decided to leave and contact the police, thereby enabling the discovery of the young woman’s body. The subsequent post-mortem examination established that the cause of the woman’s death was severe multiple head injuries and violent compression of the mouth and neck, consistent with death by mechanical asphyxiation, and that the time of death was estimated to be approximately ten days prior to the discovery of the body. On the very evening the woman’s body was found, her former partner was located with their minor son at his home in the Barriera di Milano neighbourhood. Although the man denied any involvement in the crime, he contradicted himself on several occasions regarding the last moments he had seen the woman; these inconsistencies led the public prosecutor in charge of the investigation to charge him with murder. In the days that followed, ongoing investigations were carried out to piece together the victim’s final days, up to 10 July, the date on which she was last in contact. Investigators interviewed numerous witnesses, analysed call records from various telephone lines, examined footage from CCTV cameras in the area and carried out further technical investigations. An arrest warrant was therefore issued against the victim’s ex-partner for the murder of his former partner. According to the findings of the investigation, the man had not accepted the end of the relationship, which had been over for months at the victim’s request. Several witnesses told investigators that the ex-partner had continued to exert constant control over the woman even after their separation.
