Cagliari, 17 Aug. (LaPresse) – The people-smuggler piloting the boat carrying a group of migrants, which yesterday struck an 18-year-old tourist in the waters off Su Giudeu beach in Chia, has been arrested. The arrest was ordered by Cagliari’s deputy public prosecutor, Emanuele Secci, after the Carabinieri examined several video recordings capturing the incident and the migrants’ disembarkation on the beach. The young woman was on a stand-up paddleboard with some friends when she was struck by the boat. After the impact, she was assisted by people on the beach and subsequently airlifted by the 118 emergency helicopter service. The 18-year-old suffered several fractures, but her condition is not serious.
