Trento, 21 August (LaPresse) – A person returning from a trip with suspected Ebola symptoms has been placed in isolation in Trentino. This has been confirmed by ASUIT, the Integrated University Health Authority of Trentino, which emphasised that the protocol for suspected cases of Ebola was activated today. “An adult who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of the Congo has displayed symptoms consistent with the Ebola virus,” ASUIT states. “These symptoms, in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, require the implementation of standard operating procedures for managing suspected cases. The individual in question is currently in isolation at home and is considered to be at low risk. Healthcare workers will visit the individual’s home this afternoon to collect biological samples, which will then be sent to the Luigi Sacco Hospital in Milan for laboratory testing. ASUIT’s Department of Prevention has already begun contact tracing of close contacts as a purely precautionary measure.
It should be noted that the activation of this protocol is a measure provided for by the public health surveillance network and does not in any way constitute confirmation of infection. It should also be noted that transmission occurs only through direct contact with the blood, secretions or other bodily fluids of the infected person.”
