Genoa, 25 Aug. (LaPresse) – Another fatality has been reported today in western Liguria following the double tragedy at sea off Andora. This afternoon, a 70-year-old swimmer lost his life whilst swimming in Alassio, in the Savona area. The man got into difficulty whilst in the sea, a short distance from the shore. The alarm was raised by witnesses on the beach who were the first to attempt to rescue him; the emergency services (118) and the harbour master’s office then arrived at the scene. He was taken to Riva, where resuscitation attempts were carried out, but there was nothing that could be done to save the elderly man. It is thought that he may have suffered a sudden illness whilst swimming.
