(LaPresse) – They have not provided a convincing explanation regarding the preparatory stages of the attack and have shifted much of the blame, including the procurement of the explosives, onto Gomes Tavares. This is one of the factors that prompted the investigating magistrate in Rome to confirm the detention of three of the four alleged perpetrators of the attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, whilst Marika De Filippis remains under house arrest. According to LaPresse, the judge highlighted the evasiveness that emerged during last week’s interrogations at Rebibbia prison, where Pellegrino D’Avino and Antonio Passariello answered the public prosecutors’ questions by reiterating that they knew only Gomes Tavares, Valter Lavitola’s right-hand man, and that they had never had any dealings with either the alleged instigator or Ranucci. The two claimed that it was Tavares who ordered them to place the bomb outside the journalist’s house and insisted that they “did not want to harm anyone”. However, this version failed to convince either the investigators or the investigating magistrate, who have put forward a different account of events. According to the Public Prosecutor’s investigation, in fact, the explosive used was not plastic explosive supplied by Tavares, but rather explosive material from a quarry obtained directly by D’Avino. The judge also found it implausible that the perpetrators were unaware of the composition and characteristics of the device they had physically placed outside Ranucci’s home in the municipality of Pomezia, near Rome. The roles of the other suspects also remain to be clarified. Saverio Mutone, who is being held at Rebibbia prison, is due to be questioned in the coming days.
