Naples, 7 September (LaPresse) – The INGV’s Etna Observatory issued a new VONA (Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation) this morning, raising the aviation colour code to red. Monitoring systems at the operations centre in Catania are reporting an ongoing volcanic ash emission, which is being constantly monitored via the institute’s network of visual and thermal cameras. According to initial observations, no high-altitude eruption column has formed, but the ash released into the atmosphere is being driven southwards by the winds. Assessments are now awaited regarding the impact of the emission on the airspace of Catania-Fontanarossa Airport.
