Rome, 13 Sept. (LaPresse) – A murder has taken place in Saonara, in the province of Padua, where a 96-year-old woman died after being suffocated by her son-in-law. It was the man himself, aged 70, who alerted the Carabinieri. In an evident state of frustration, he told the officers who attended the scene that he had acted in response to his mother-in-law’s repeated irrational behaviour, which was likely exacerbated by the progressive deterioration of her health and a state of profound emotional distress. The woman’s body was found in her bedroom. At the scene, under the direction of the duty Public Prosecutor from the Padua Public Prosecutor’s Office and in the presence of the coroner, officers from the Piove di Sacco detachment and the Investigative Unit of the Padua Provincial Carabinieri Command are carrying out forensic examinations and investigations to corroborate and verify the statements made by the man, who was subsequently taken to Padua Prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
