Campobasso, 21 Sept. (LaPresse) – A man is alleged to have attempted to smuggle a smartphone into Campobasso prison by throwing a parcel over the prison’s perimeter wall. A 23-year-old Tunisian man, with a criminal record, has been charged by the Carabinieri in the regional capital. The incident took place yesterday, 20 September. According to the reconstruction of events, the young man is said to have thrown two packages from the side facing Via Gazzani: one managed to clear the wall and entered the prison grounds on Via Cavour, but was intercepted by prison police before it could reach its intended recipient. A smartphone was found inside the parcel. According to the investigation, the device was intended for an inmate to maintain unauthorised contact with the outside world. Footage from the prison’s CCTV cameras proved crucial in identifying the alleged perpetrator.
