Rome: Death of Denise Cosco, who had reconciled with her father – suspicion of incitement to suicide

(LaPresse) – Incitement to suicide, but with no suspects: this is the alleged offence registered by the Velletri Public Prosecutor’s Office to shed light on the death of Denise Cosco, daughter of Lea Garofalo, who was killed for having rebelled against the ‘Ndrangheta, paying with her life. On 10 September, the 31-year-old threw herself from the balcony of her home in Ariccia, in the Castelli Romani, and died after days of agony. The investigation, coordinated by Chief Prosecutor Carlo Villani, aims to reconstruct the personal and family context in which the act is believed to have taken place. Her partner reportedly told investigators that she had re-established contact with her father, Carlo Cosco, who has been definitively convicted of Mafia-related offences and is believed to be the instigator of Lea Garofalo’s murder. The possibility that she had also re-established contact with her ex-partner is being examined. In the background, the case of her four-year-old daughter is also coming to light; the child was placed in the care of her paternal grandparents following the revocation of her mother’s parental rights. Meanwhile, experts from the Public Prosecutor’s Office are analysing the victim’s smartphones and electronic devices.
