Pavia, 30 Sept. (LaPresse) – ‘An indictment is highly likely. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’d say that at this stage it’s a foregone conclusion’. This was stated by lawyer Angela Taccia, who, alongside Liborio Cataliotti, is defending Andrea Sempio – under investigation for the murder of Chiara Poggi – as she left the Pavia courthouse, commenting on the possible indictment of her client. Sempio, the lawyer explained, is living “in a state of perpetual waiting”. He is a rational and calm young man, and his primary concern is his parents’ health. “We fear nothing; I always speak with great humility, but we are strong in our defence. We were ready to face cross-examination months ago,” added Taccia. Within 20 days of being served with the 415 bis notice, the defence will file further submissions. “In my view, we are even stronger; we shall see,” she explained. On the subject of the RIS officers, the lawyer said she had no grounds to believe they had not carried out their duties properly and that she was awaiting the results of the public prosecutor’s investigation. She then turned to the possible retrial of Alberto Stasi, who has been definitively convicted of the crime. “We hope for a retrial, but mainly for technical reasons relating to criminal procedure, because there are no rules that actually govern the specific case that has arisen,” she emphasised. This refers to the situation where there is a person with a final conviction, without a retrial, and a suspect who, in the lawyer’s view, will very likely become a defendant. If the case proceeds to the preliminary hearing without a retrial, the defence already has its objections prepared to be raised in court.
