Milan, 30 Sept. (LaPresse) – Border controls with Spain remain in force. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has decided to extend checks at air and sea borders for a further 15 days, following consultation with the Committee for the Analysis of Immigration and Border Security, which met this morning. The Interior Ministry announced this, stating that “the decision is based on the current situation in the Spanish exclave of Ceuta and, in particular, the persistence of the critical issues already identified”. The aim – the Ministry of the Interior continues – is to strengthen the protection of Europe’s borders, not least to safeguard national security, as well as to prevent and counter potential terrorist threats. The measure has been communicated to the European Commission and to the Ministers of the Interior of the other Member States of the European Union.
