Milan, Oct. 3 (LaPresse) – “They are convinced that fingerprint 33 can be attributed to Sempio, but they must prove that the fingerprint contains blood. At the moment, they emphasize that this cannot be ruled out, but neither can it be confirmed, and therefore there is no certainty. They must also clarify whether it is connected to the crime.” This was stated to LaPresse by lawyer Angela Taccia, who, together with Liborio Cataliotti, is defending Andrea Sempio, accused of the murder of Chiara Poggi, who was killed on August 13, 2007. “We are continuing to carry out both empirical and scientific investigations,” she said. “That fingerprint cannot be dated.” Regarding the possibility of requesting a judicial evidentiary hearing, Taccia pointed out that “there has been no change on the part of the defense; we have not changed our position. It could also be requested during the preliminary hearing.” Taccia explained that the request for committal for trial “will certainly come, and in that case we will be ready.” “In any event, even if the case were to be dismissed, perhaps we would be able to remain at ease for three or four years, and then they would bring Sempio back into the case again. A preliminary hearing would be better.” The deadline for submitting the defense’s counter-arguments is October 18. “But we will file them earlier, perhaps on Friday the 16th or Saturday, but definitely before the deadline.”
