Rome, 4 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Until the courts name someone else, as far as we’re concerned, Stasi is the culprit.” This is the stance reiterated by Giuseppe Poggi and Rita Preda, Chiara’s parents, in an exclusive interview – delivered between sobs and with voices choked with emotion – on Verissimo, on Canale 5, with Silvia Toffanin. “If there turns out to be another culprit, we’ll take note of it,” added her mother. “For us, the verdict stands – what the Italian state and the Italian justice system have told us: when they tell us otherwise, we’ll take note of it.” But 19 years on from the murder of Chiara Poggi, which took place in Garlasco on 13 August 2007, the parents are asking, above all, for the case to be brought to a close once and for all. “We just want this story to be over. After 19 years, Chiara has the right to rest in peace. We’ve come here simply to talk about Chiara, precisely because, over the past year and a half, far too little has been said about her.” The second investigation was “even worse than the first”. “The first investigation didn’t have a media circus. Over the past year and a half – every single day, day in, day out – there have been programmes talking about Garlasco; it seems as though Garlasco is the only thing that exists in Italy. We’ve never spoken out because it was better to let the necessary work be done: we’ve come here simply to talk about Chiara.”
