Milan, 12 Oct. (LaPresse) – Operations by the National Alpine and Caving Rescue Corps to rescue the caver trapped inside a cave in the municipality of Urzulei (Nuoro), Sardinia, continued throughout the night and are still ongoing. The mountain rescue team is working to clear the path and reach the caver, who is believed to be buried under further debris of various sizes. The operation is proving particularly complex due to the volume of material to be removed and the presence of unstable boulders, which require particular caution. The rescue operation is also being scaled up: thanks to support from the Italian Air Force, three additional Alpine and Caving Rescue technicians specialising in clearing blockages – travelling from central Italy – and a further eight Sardinian technicians are due to be flown in by helicopter. The Fire Brigade is also on site to support the rescue operations.
