Rome, Oct. 17 (LaPresse) – “The discovery of the Pope’s malignant lung tumour was entirely accidental, as unfortunately often happens. During routine abdominal examinations, this small spot was discovered in the chest, at the bases of the lungs.” This was stated to Vatican media by Professor Stefano Margaritora, who operated on Leo XIV on October 13. “This is fairly normal, because when radiological examinations of the abdomen are performed, the bases of the lungs are usually visible, since the diaphragm is a kind of parachute. But certainly, if this small spot had been a little higher up, it would not have been detected,” the surgeon added.
