Milan, Oct. 17 (LaPresse) – The number of people taken to police headquarters in Milan following the clashes this afternoon during the demonstration against the rising cost of living has risen to around 50. Almost half of them are minors. A Carabinieri vehicle was wrecked during the clashes in Piazza Duomo. Some troublemakers stormed a sportswear shop in Galleria del Corso, near San Babila. Around ten people were taken to hospital as a result of the clashes. Two officers were injured. “Groups of violent individuals attacked law enforcement officers with firecrackers, stones and road barriers. The right to demonstrate is sacred, but it cannot become a licence to assault people wearing a uniform and put those in the square at risk,” Domenico Pianese, secretary-general of the Coisp police union, said in a statement.
