Rome, 17 Oct. (LaPresse) – Major anti-drug operation in Rome. Eight arrests; over 200 kilograms of hashish seized, including items subject to deferred seizure. A blow to the Roman drug trafficking network, which had been operating throughout Italy for years. This is the outcome of the operation coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office and carried out by the judicial police unit of the State Police’s 14th District (Primavalle). Over 100 officers were deployed for the raid, including not only those from the District that carried out the investigations, but also the Canine Units, the Lazio Crime Prevention Unit, patrol cars and personnel from other neighbouring police stations. The order issued by the investigating magistrate at the Court of Rome, running to over 450 pages, reconstructs months of intensive investigations and uncovers a criminal network comprising young and very young people, capable of moving over 220 kg of hashish and almost one kilo of cocaine in less than six months, and a total of 500 kg of ‘soft’ drugs. During the execution of the pre-trial detention orders, more than 185,000 euros in cash, packed in bundles scattered across the bedroom floor, was seized from the home of one of the main suspects. During a search of another suspect’s home, nearly one and a half kilos of hashish was seized.
