Milan, 20 Oct. (LaPresse) – Four young people in prison and one under house arrest: this is the ruling handed down by the Milan investigating magistrate, Fabrizio Felice, against five of those arrested in connection with last weekend’s street clashes in the city. The five suspects are charged, on various counts, with the offences of aggravated resistance to a public official, vandalism and looting. One of those arrested, who denied all charges during the remand hearing, is alleged to have intervened – according to the reconstruction of events – to prevent another protester, a minor, from being detained by the police. In this context, the adult is said to have engaged in a ‘scuffle’ with a police officer, who was injured. His conduct is therefore described as an ‘assault’ on the police officer ‘to facilitate the escape’ of a minor protester, who is also subject to a precautionary measure for having been responsible for damage, vandalism, looting of shops, arson and the erection of barricades on the street, during the clashes in the Duomo area. Another protester, aged 21, whose detention has been confirmed, is alleged to have thrown firecrackers, metal rubbish bins, several glass bottles and various cobblestones at the police. The 21-year-old, his face covered by a black balaclava bearing a skull design, is alleged to have thrown metal tables at officers in Piazza Cordusio, before heading back towards Piazza Duomo.
