Rome, 27 Oct. (LaPresse) – The Bologna Public Prosecutor’s Office will provide an update tomorrow on the investigation into the death of Abderrahim Fakir, aged 42, for which the forensic report identifies three possible contributing factors: being held face-down during the restraint, cocaine use and heart problems. The man died on 19 July from acute respiratory failure after being pinned to the ground by two police officers in Via Svevo, in the Pilastro district. The final report is now being examined by the magistrates, who have been investigating the case since the day of his death. The findings of the post-mortem examination had already been presented to the parties’ legal advisers on 2 October during a meeting in Padua. The focus of the investigations is on the hypoxia believed to have caused the death and the possible contribution of various factors. According to reports, the sequence of events leading to the death cannot be attributed to a single cause. Fabio Anselmo, the lawyer representing Fakir’s family, and Gabriele Bordoni, the defence lawyer for the two officers, had in fact expressed differing opinions regarding the findings contained in the expert reports commissioned by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
