Reggio Calabria, 28 Oct. (LaPresse) – New developments in the anti-Mafia operation carried out at dawn by the Carabinieri in the Sibaritide area, spanning the municipalities of Corigliano-Rossano, Cassano all’Ionio and Sibari. Among the 41 people subject to a pre-trial detention order is Flavio Stasi, mayor of Corigliano-Rossano (Cosenza), now in his second term and a member of the Green and Left Alliance, who has been placed under house arrest. The order, signed by the investigating magistrate of Catanzaro, Fabiana Giacchetti, at the request of the Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) led by Prosecutor Salvatore Curcio and public prosecutors Alessandro Riello and Stefania Paparazzo, ordered the detention in prison of 24 suspects and house arrest for 17 people. Among the offences charged on various counts – all aggravated by mafia methods or aims – are a political-mafia electoral pact, as well as membership of a mafia-type organisation, murder, extortion, robbery and possession of firearms. Another local politician, Pietro Lucisano, a municipal councillor for Forza Italia, is also implicated in the operation and has been placed under house arrest.
