Milan, Oct. 29 (LaPresse) – He allegedly killed his disabled cousin, who suffered from severe dysphagia that prevented him from swallowing solid food, by delivering cream-filled doughnuts to him. This is the accusation against a 76-year-old man from Reggio Emilia who has been placed under house arrest and allegedly killed the 74-year-old to gain possession of his inheritance. The death was investigated by the Carabinieri operational unit of the Reggio Emilia Company, under the coordination of the Reggio Emilia Public Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Chief Prosecutor Calogero Gaetano Paci. The 74-year-old man with disabilities died of asphyxiation on June 27 at the social and healthcare facility where he was staying. Yesterday evening, the Carabinieri enforced a house arrest order issued by the investigating judge of the Reggio Emilia Court against the victim’s 76-year-old cousin, who was also his legal guardian. According to the prosecution’s case, the suspect allegedly acted with premeditation to take possession of the estate: despite being fully aware of his relative’s serious medical condition — a severe form of dysphagia that required an exclusively liquid diet — he allegedly delivered sweets to him, specifically cream-filled doughnuts, causing him to choke to death. The man is charged with premeditated murder.
