Naples, 1 Nov. (LaPresse) – An orange alert is in place for tomorrow, Monday 2 November, in Puglia and Basilicata due to the meteorological and hydrogeological risk associated with the arrival of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The Civil Protection Department has also issued a yellow alert in five other regions: Calabria, Campania, Molise, Abruzzo and Sicily. A low-pressure system moving down from the Balkans towards the Tyrrhenian Sea is causing unstable conditions in central and southern Italy, which are set to worsen tomorrow along the central Adriatic coast and across much of the south, with widespread rainfall – some of it heavy – and a general increase in wind speeds. From the early hours of Monday, rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Abruzzo, Molise and Sicily, spreading to Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Basilicata. The weather will be persistent, particularly in Basilicata and along the eastern Apennine slopes of Abruzzo and Molise, with possible heavy downpours, gusts of wind, localised hailstorms and frequent lightning. Strong to gale-force northerly winds are also expected over Lazio, Campania and Sicily, with strong gale-force gusts in the southern parts of the island. The strong winds will subsequently spread to Basilicata and Puglia, with winds from easterly directions.
