Trento, Nov. 1 (LaPresse) – The Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service carried out a night-time operation to rescue a hiker stranded along the Ferrata delle Trincee via ferrata at Passo Fedaia, in Val di Fassa. The man was tackling the equipped route alone when darkness caught him by surprise, leaving him unable to continue. He therefore called the emergency number 112 for help. The Emergency Coordination Centre requested the intervention of the helicopter rescue service, while several members of the Alta Val di Fassa Alpine Rescue station made themselves available at the helipad. After ruling out any medical issues, the helicopter dropped off the medical team at the Canazei helipad before carrying out an initial reconnaissance flight. Once the man was located on a ledge at an altitude of approximately 2,500 metres, the helicopter lowered a rescue technician by winch near the hiker. After being brought aboard the aircraft, the man was transferred to the helipad, where rescuers escorted him back to his vehicle.
