Naples, 4 Nov. (LaPresse) – Three criminal groups operating in the Pianura neighbourhood, in the western part of Naples, have been targeted by a police operation that has resulted in 28 pre-trial detention orders. The investigation, coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate and conducted by the Naples Police Headquarters’ Mobile Squad with the support of the Pianura Police Station, concerns the Perfetto clan, the Musto group and several members of the Lago family. The charges, brought on various grounds, include membership of a mafia-type organisation, extortion, drug trafficking and dealing, the unlawful possession and carrying of firearms – including military-grade weapons – and offences aggravated by the use of mafia methods. The investigation began in November 2024, following a bomb attack on the home of Antonio Lago, a member of the neighbourhood’s historic Camorra family. As Deputy Public Prosecutor Sergio Amato explained during a press conference with Public Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, the Lago family has been present in Pianura since the 1980s, when the neighbourhood underwent significant urban development. Over time, the Marsicano and Marfella clans also established themselves in the area, subsequently facing various judicial measures. Amidst this climate of criminal instability, the Perfetto group emerged, evolving from the Marfella clan, to which the man identified by investigators as the current head of the Perfetto group belonged. According to the investigators’ account, the latter’s release from prison marked the start of a phase of violent conflict between the criminal groups, characterised by murders, attempted murders and shootings. At the heart of the clashes was control of the drug trade in the neighbourhood, managed through dozens of drug-dealing spots, operating 24 hours a day, organised into eight-hour shifts and capable of generating profits of up to 50,000 euros.
