Rome, 5 Nov. (LaPresse) – Sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended, for firing an airsoft gun at two members of the ANPI during the 25 April celebrations in Rome. This is the sentence handed down by the preliminary hearing judge at the Rome Court, in summary proceedings, to Eitan Bondì, aged 21, for the assault that took place on 25 April at Parco Schuster, in the Ostiense district. The victims, Rossana Gabrieli and Nicola Fasciano, had just left the Liberation Day rally. According to the prosecution’s account, the young man approached the pair on a scooter, stopping a short distance away from them at the junction of Via delle Sette Chiese and Via Ostiense. Both were wearing ANPI scarves round their necks. Bondì is alleged to have then drawn a soft-air pistol and fired several shots in rapid succession, striking Fasciano in the face. The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office maintained that the act had been premeditated and that the weapon, which lacked a red safety cap, had been brought into a public place with the intention of causing harm. The charges initially included attempted aggravated assault, as well as unauthorised possession of a weapon, but were subsequently reclassified as attempted grievous bodily harm. The prosecution maintained that the shots were intended to cause very serious bodily harm, whilst the charge was reclassified today by the preliminary hearing judge as assault and he was acquitted of the offence of unlawfully carrying a firearm. The incident caused alarm as it took place during the Liberation Day celebrations. The pistol, according to the prosecution, was capable of causing injury and was used without a red cap.
