Milan, March 8. (LaPresse) – "The architecture of this monumental complex is eloquent, evocative, but nothing speaks of the tragedy of war and the value of life as much as your testimony. The personal accounts of the experiences lived by each individual during those fateful moments of August 1945 and in the atrocious weeks that followed the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The collective testimony through the Nihon Hidankyo Association, which since 1956 has tirelessly dedicated itself to offering humanity a solemn and severe warning. The awarding of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize is a well-deserved tribute to the immeasurable value of your constant commitment to reflecting on the atomic tragedy and the indelible scars it has left on the planet and in the collective consciousness of the world." These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in Hiroshima, Japan. "This prestigious recognition, for which I offer my congratulations, is something I hope will inspire future generations so that they grasp the importance of remembering the tragedies of humanity, do not lose their meaning, and learn to treasure them in the exercise of their responsibilities," added the Head of State.
