Rome, 24 Mar. (LaPresse) – ’Open markets correspond to two vital interests: peace and our vital export interests. Tariffs create obstacles to markets, they alter the market, they penalise quality products and this is unacceptable for us but it should be unacceptable for all countries in the world. Collaboration based on fair rules is essential. The answer is not tariffs but rules that must be respected’. This is what the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, said during his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Agriculture is’ Village on the anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome. ‘Opposing markets jeopardise trust between countries and international collaboration, while open markets with common trades create relationships of trust and knowledge, a fabric of collaboration that guarantees peace. For this reason our position is very clear: for world peace and for the benefit of all peoples, we need open markets, and this is a rule of civilisation’, added the Head of State.
