With professionalism and balance, humanity and competence, the women and men of the Police watch over the security of the national community, with generous service to citizens, guarding constitutional values, with prompt action for social cohesion’. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the message sent to the Chief of Police, Director General of Public Security, Prefect Vittorio Pisani. ‘While the jubilee year of the Catholic Church is in full swing, I express my particular appreciation for the efforts made on the occasion of this extraordinary event, which attracts significant flows of people to our country and to the capital,’ adds the Head of State. ’The mission in favour of the common good is accompanied by sacrifices and mourning. To the families of the fallen come the feelings of the most intense closeness. A heartfelt thought goes to the policemen who, in the performance of their duty, were injured.
