Rome, Sept. 2 (LaPresse) – Luca Zaia, outgoing president of the Veneto Region, commented on the possibility of a meeting with Matteo Salvini, stating that he “does not rule out that we might cross paths in the coming days,” but at the moment he has no meetings scheduled. Regarding the “Zaia List” for the upcoming regional elections, Zaia explained that the situation is still evolving and that it “could take a step forward, one back, or one to the side.” Concerning the next meeting of the center-right coalition leaders, the governor clarified that the table is managed by the national party secretaries and that, for now, there is nothing definitive to communicate.
Zaia asked to be allowed to peacefully conclude his term without further tensions, responding to questions about whether the center-right candidate will again be a member of the League or Brothers of Italy. “It is impossible to say,” he said, emphasizing that he is unaware of the progress of talks between the parties and that intervening at this stage would be “unjustified.”
Regarding the regional budget, Zaia explained that it will be provisional, a choice dictated by the autumn election call, which coincides with the budget preparation period. He deemed it difficult and inappropriate to approve the budget during the election campaign. The new administration, starting its mandate in December, will thus have the opportunity to prepare a budget forecast to be approved by January-February. Zaia concluded by emphasizing that approving the budget before the elections “was almost impossible.”
