China, D’Alema: ‘Me in Beijing? Absurd accusations, the EU is wrong to isolate itself’

Milan, 6 September (LaPresse) – ‘Every ten years, the Chinese celebrate their Liberation with a military parade to which they always invite governments from around the world. This time, the Europeans were not there, and in my opinion, this was the wrong choice.’ Massimo D’Alema said this in an interview with La Stampa, regarding his presence at the military parade. ‘We are in the midst of a crisis of the old world order, we need to build a new one that has no hegemony of any kind, and therefore we cannot afford to make a mistake,’ he said, ‘crushing a great power like China and putting it at the head of a large anti-Western bloc. A huge mistake: if you think you can isolate the rest of the world, you end up isolating yourself.’ ‘China is not bombing anyone, it has no history of aggression, and Xi once said that you build walls when you don’t want to be invaded, not when you want to invade. China is aggressive on the economic front, and on this front we must find a balanced agreement that safeguards our interests, but on the geopolitical front, China represents an element of stability,’ adds the former Prime Minister.
