Rome, Sept. 23 (LaPresse) – In an interview with Corriere della Sera, MEP Ilaria Salis of the Italian Green and Left Alliance reiterated her request to be tried in Italy rather than in Hungary, where she is accused of assaulting neo-Nazi militants.
“I do not want to evade a trial, but I claim the right to a fair trial, with all democratic guarantees. In Hungary, this is not possible,” said Salis.
She also denounced intimidation and pressure: “The government’s spokesperson sent me the coordinates of the prison where they plan to lock me up, and Orbán himself described me as a terrorist.”
Salis argues that Italian law allows a trial to be held in Italy even for offenses committed abroad: “The government can do it; the law allows it. Try me in Italy. Do it now.”
She concluded: “This is a call for justice, not for impunity.”
