Cagliari, Oct. 15 (LaPresse) – “I learned of the Constitutional Court’s ruling from Brussels while chairing the Forum of European Island Regions. The Council recognized that the Electoral Guarantee Board had exceeded its powers by ruling on my disqualification in circumstances not provided for by law as grounds for ineligibility, thereby undermining the constitutionally guaranteed powers of the Region of Sardinia. In simple terms, the Court stated that it was not up to either the State or the Electoral Guarantee Board to declare my disqualification, nor that there were grounds for doing so.” This was stated by the president of the Region, Alessandra Todde. In recent months, the president continued, they have called me disqualified, they have tried to undermine the work of the Council, to discredit the mandate that the citizens of Sardinia have entrusted to me. They have tried to question the legitimacy of a democratically elected government. We, on the other hand, have chosen another path: that of trust in justice and institutions, of seriousness and daily work. We have continued to do everything necessary to revive Sardinia, ignoring the detractors. We have done so with our heads held high and with the conviction that the truth would speak for itself.“ ”Today, the Constitutional Court has spoken. And we continue to move forward, to work with our heads held high, with even more energy and determination, with a single goal in mind: the good of Sardinia,” concludes Todde.
