Milan, 16 October (LaPresse) – “As often happens, a hate campaign is underway, promoted by the usual newspapers — if we want to call them that — and relaunched by the right-wing political forces of this poor country, which deserves a very different debate. I am being attributed — complete with quotation marks — phrases I never said and concepts I never expressed. The content of one of my posts has been exploited in an indecent manner and used to incite hundreds of users, many of whom are fake profiles and on the payroll, to invade my social media accounts, spewing hatred and stupidity. This, it seems, is their idea of free speech… I reiterate what I said: what happened in Castel d’Azzano is a tragedy, a tragedy. And yes, the death of three people pains me, and I express my human sympathy to the families of the victims. It should not have happened’. This was written on Facebook by Avs MEP Ilaria Salis. ‘But I also reiterate that politics must take its share of responsibility and address the root causes of the hardship. If you take offence or feel the need to attack those who say this, it is because, deep down, you have a guilty conscience: for you, those who are in financial difficulty, those who are trying to survive on the margins of this unjust society, those who are poor, do not deserve a home. Because, for you, economic interests and private property come before people’s needs. But you do not have the courage to admit it,” she concludes.
