Mattarella: ‘EU principles called into question, no concessions’

Brussels, 20 October (LaPresse) – “Today, the European institutions, which Brussels has taken on the task of hosting, are facing existential challenges. The Kingdom of Belgium and the Italian Republic, strong in their values and democratic history, can support the European Union at a historic moment in which global challenges seek to call into question the founding principles of our Union and peaceful coexistence among peoples. We cannot afford to give in. The Union is a guarantee of freedom and progress for our peoples. Narratives and actions that seek to weaken the sovereignty and freedom of the European people and other peoples are intolerable. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in his speech at the toast during the dinner with the Belgian royal family at Laeken Castle.
