Rome, 29 October (LaPresse) – “This has led to a widespread sense of uncertainty and insecurity, even in Western countries, which can lead to wrong choices and jeopardise values that we considered to be established. Europe has taken important steps in recent years, but these now appear insufficient given the scale of the changes taking place. What my illustrious predecessor, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, called a condition of “lameness” in the Union remains: the asymmetry between the single currency and an economic and fiscal policy that is still fragmented.” These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the meeting of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, currently underway at Palazzo Corsini in Florence.
