Milan, Nov. 26 (LaPresse) – The U.S. plan for Ukraine “is remarkable, ambitious, even if some ridicule it. But the only two who should judge it are the parties in conflict, Putin and Zelensky. I hope no one gets in the way.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini in an interview with the newspaper La Repubblica.
Asked whether by “getting in the way” he meant the EU with a counter-plan, Salvini replied: “Yes. We are working on Trump’s draft, and I agree with the words of the Prime Minister.”
Regarding the observation that for many the original plan was a surrender, Salvini responded: “Let the Ukrainians decide, if Zelensky is working on it first. The impression is that someone in Paris and Berlin has internal problems and wants to continue the war, perhaps to sell weapons.”
On the question of whether he will vote to renew military aid to Kyiv, he said: “We have always done so, but the issue of corruption cannot be ignored. We want to see clearly before taking action. If there is a peace agreement, then the issue does not arise. If the conflict ends, I already have a list of hundreds of entrepreneurs who want to go to Ukraine for reconstruction and to Russia to reopen commercial channels.”
