PD, Schlein: ‘No personal party or barracks, discussion is our strength’

Montepulciano (Siena), 30 November (LaPresse) – ‘This desire to make an impact and participate is what distinguishes our way of being in the party and is absolutely positive; in fact, I would go further and say that it is our strength.’ These were the words of PD secretary Elly Schlein speaking at the “Building the Alternative” convention in Montepulciano, Siena. ‘And not everyone has it, mind you, discussion is our strength,’ she continued. ‘And the more they try to tell us otherwise, the more we must assert who we are, not a personal party, but a pluralistic party, a party that discusses.’ ‘It’s not that if there are several personal parties in Italy, then we are the strange ones, even though we are democrats in name. I don’t trust and have never trusted parties where not a fly can be heard because only the leader speaks,’ she continued. ‘This is the true essence of a democratic force that confronts, discusses and builds, providing the synthesis needed to be clear.’ ‘We do not intend to resign ourselves to the model of personal parties, barracks parties or electoral committee parties. We are something else. We have a culture and a history of militancy, which means that we are all called upon to contribute to decisions, so that the party is the home of all those who share values, proposals and, fundamentally, an idea for the future,’ she explains. ‘A large community that welcomes different voices and stories and cultivates them, nourishes them, cultivates the cultural diversity on which this party is founded. Let us never forget this because it is a source of wealth and, at the same time, has the ability to seek and find synthesis every day.’
