Migrants, from Lega pdl to citizenship restrictions: integration exam required

Milan, 7 December (LaPresse) – “For foreigners born in Italy who have resided there legally without interruption until reaching the age of majority, it is no longer sufficient to declare their intention to acquire Italian citizenship within one year of that date. Additional requirements are also envisaged, such as: passing an integration exam, the content and procedures of which are established by decree of the Minister of the Interior, which is aimed at verifying effective integration and knowledge of minimum social and legal rules; the absence of criminal convictions for non-culpable crimes; the absence of ongoing criminal proceedings for non-culpable crimes; non-admission to the application of the penalty at the request of the parties for non-culpable crimes and the absence of crimes committed in the previous three years for which judicial pardon has been granted’. This is what is stated in the Lega’s draft law on citizenship signed by Jacopo Morrone, Riccardo Molinari, Giorgia Andreuzza, Ingrid Bisa and Elena Maccanti. “Through limited but specific amendments to the current legislation, this bill aims to rationalise the system for recognising citizenship and access to long-term resident status, which allows immediate and full access to social rights, placing a heavy burden on public finances,” it continues.
