EU: Bonelli calls for investment in energy and technological independence to counter Trump-Putin offensive

Milan, 8 December (LaPresse) – “There is an attack on the foundations of the European Union, an attack on the constitutional, political and democratic act of Europe: to dissolve Europe itself. And this attack comes jointly from Trump and Putin. The real response that Europe can give is to invest much more in its technological and energy autonomy, because it is precisely its dependence in these sectors that makes it vulnerable to blackmail by other countries: one day Russia, the next day liquid gas from the United States of America, or Arab gas. It would be necessary to invest more in these areas — not just ReArm EU. The real problem is not increasing spending on armaments, but making Europe competitive in this area, because the real war is being fought here. The other essential response is to build a common model of defence and foreign policy in Europe: exactly what Giorgia Meloni does not want to do, because she is transforming Italy into the 51st state of the United States of America and is, in fact, a Trojan horse for the disintegration of Europe itself’.
