AI, Mattarella: ‘Entrusting life and death decisions to algorithms is a step backwards for security’

Rome, 15 December (LaPresse) – “Technological advances in weaponry and the use of artificial intelligence expose us to increased risks. In the most dangerous areas, entrusting life and death decisions to algorithms would mark a dramatic step backwards for collective security. I think there is a very fine line between the illusion of the infallible dominance of artificial intelligence and the definitive prevalence of natural stupidity, which unfortunately, as in the well-known aphorism attributed to Albert Einstein, can tend towards infinity.” Thus spoke the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the 18th Conference of Italian Ambassadors.
